Icefish has been harvested in commercial quantities in
Subarea 48.3 and Divisions 58.5.1 and 58.5.2, usually by mid-water trawls.
Stocks of icefish are believed to undergo large natural variations in
abundance, and commercial fishing for the species is restricted to periods
of high abundance estimated from pre-recruit trawl surveys. Such surveys are
conducted regularly in Areas 48 and 58 to estimate icefish abundance.
All vessels carry observers appointed in accordance with the
CCAMLR Scheme of International Scientific
Observation (see Conservation Measures
42-01 and
42-02). |
